EVILE - Five Serpent's Tour 2012

British thrashers EVILE recently kicked off a headlining European tour in support of their critically-acclaimed new album, FIVE SERPENT'S TEETH.

The band are two weeks into their tour of mainland Europe with support from PORTRAIT and DR. LIVING DEAD, and have nine shows remaining before they return to the UK for a special show as part of HMV's Next Big Thing.

Showing Some BIOHAZARD love!

Geek alert! Geek alert! Geek alert! My first Biohazard show was in Germany. Actually, my first few Biohazard shows were in Germany. So more than a decade ago when I was able to see Biohazard at L'Amours in Brooklyn, I jumped at the chance - even though I had no idea how to get there Welcome to the subway system This show was much easier. The Gramercy Theatre is on the Lower East Side. Take the 6. It's right there! Biohazard hit the stage to a packed and enthusiastic crowd. "New York, are you fucking ready?" queries Billy Graziadei. Hey planet Earth, are YOU ready? Biohazard kills live. Brutal from start to finish. The drum opener for Chamber Spins Free is solid eargasm. Billy had some technical problems with his guitar so Scott Roberts (bass player) took over on vocal for the first half of the song. Guitar fixed, Billy returned without missing a beat! "The beauty of fucking hardcore."

The energy coming off the stage was intense! Reborn sounds aces live, forceful even. The live guitar sound is rich and thick. Come Alive is frakking aces. Bug out to the new shit - it's more brutal and heavy live. I hope you have the album Reborn in Defiance. I really do! You can tell the band are enjoying themselves on stage. They played Black, White, and Red - an oldie but a goodie. A frakking awesome pit broke out on the floor. "Assholes and elbows like it was in 1986" says Scott.

Danny Schuler was a monster behind the kit. Just amazing. The band is fit and tight. they are playing at 11. Down For Life was on on the set as well as a killer version of Howard Beach. It was psychotically fast! Biohazard are playing with an amazing groove! Graziadei, Roberts, Schuler, and Hambel just fit together so well on stage. It's a connection that can be felt in the audience. Biohazard has proved yet again that they are a band to be reckoned with.

P.S. There is nothing better than seeing a huge ass bald dude in a wife beater bust a move on stage. Scott Roberts has mad dance skills!

20 Questions with Burkhard Schmitt from Hate Squad

Great things come out of Germany. The VW Bug. Chocolate. Fritz Lang. Rock am Ring / Rock am Park. Bratwurst. Hate Squad. Indeed, Hate Squad released their newest album Katharsis via Massacre Records on January 17. Based out of Hannover, Katharsis is their sixth LP to date and it's a frakking killer! I recently chatted with lead singer Burkhard Schmitt and this is what he has to say.

KD: What was the process for writing and recording the new album?

Creating a new HATE SQUAD song means, there is always the music first and then I add the lyrics and the vocals to the music. Mainly the music for all the tracks on Katharsis are composed by Mark Künnemann (Guitar) and Helge Dolgener (Drums)...and the lyrics were mainly written by myself. The album has been recorded again at the Rape of harmonies Studios (Heaven shall burn, Maroon, Fall of Serenity etc.) and recordings and mixing all in all took 4 weeks.

KD: What was the inspiration behind the lyrics for the new album?

I don’t like really to explain my lyrics that much in general. I prefer that every listener makes his own thoughts and reflects his own life and situation and what the lyrics could mean to him in his very special way. To make it short, the inspiration behind the “pissed” lyrics includes subjects like: life, struggle, pain, hatred, anger, corruption, frustration, revolution, war, child abuse. The inspiration behind the more “positive” lyrics came from: friendship, good old times & friends, hope, cleaning the soul & victory!

KD: How was the recording process for Katharsis different from Deguello Wartunes and H8 for the Masses?

The recording process for “Degüello Wartunes” and “Katharsis” was very similar, because it was the same producer, the same studio and the same people in the band. Just the tuning on both albums is different and we used different mastering studios, and the Katharsis album we recorded in summer, “Degüello Wartunes” in winter... but in my opinion Katharsis is a logical follow up to “Degüello Wartunes”. The “H8 for the masses” recordings were totally different from the last 2 albums for several reasons.

KD: What does A.P.A.B. stand for?

A.P.A.B. stands for “all politicians are bastards”. It’s a “clone” from A.C.A.B. (“all cops are bastards”), which is a well known slogan in the worldwide football (soccer) ultra/hooligan scene, also used often in the Punk, Hardcore and Oi Scene. As the idea came to my mind, I searched the whole internet, just to find out that obviously nobody had this idea before and so I definately had to use it as a title and write lyrics to it. A.P.A.B. was also the first song that I wrote lyrics for and it is also one of my favorite songs from the album!

KD: How do you describe the sound of Katharsis?

Katharsis is the logical follow up to the 2008 album “Degüello Wartunes”...in my opinion a good mixture between Death Metal, Thrash Metal & Hardcore and everybody who loves those music styles should check Katharsis out! ;-)

KD: With almost twenty years as a band, how do you keep it fresh and exciting?

We have a new 2^nd guitar player in the band now, his name is Marcel Griese and he is the youngest guy in the band now, so we all hope that this keeps us all fresh (and young) for the future...hahahahaha...and about the excitement I can only say: we are all still good friends after all these hard times and all the years of struggle and low success... isn’t this excitement enough??! ;-)

KD: What is your touring schedule for the new album?

We want to play more live shows again, but so far nothing is confirmed...sorry!

KD: Is there any where you'd like to tour that you haven't been and why?

Definately North and South America...would love to destroy stages in the US, Canada or Argentina, Chile or Brasil! I personally like America a lot and it’s still one of my biggest dreams to tour there one day! Cross your fingers that my dream will come true one day...!!! :-D

KD: What is the most unusual gig you've had?

The “H8 for the masses” album release show in 2004 was very special & unusal! The show was in Sondershausen (Germany) in an old mine, 800meters below earth’s surface!! Maroon & Heaven shall burn were also on the bill...all concert visitors and also all the bands & equipment needed to use an elevator to get down there...it nearly took 5 hours to get all the people and equipment down there! It was really exciting and very special...it was an impressive view from the stage inside the cave with all the people in there, but the sound 800meters below earth’s surface really sucked!

KD: What inspires you to keep making music?

Music is simply my life and helps me to keep my inner world in balance. I need music like the air to breathe! It’s also the best way for me to let all my anger and frustration out without hurting anybody. To let everything out is also the main theme in the lyrics to the title track Katharsis (“let it all out, cleaning my soul from all the dust, spit it all out...Katharsis”.

KD: What is it that you do different as a band that keeps your fans loyal, coming back for more and bringing friends?

Guess we are just cool and friendly guys, hahaha...no serious I think we are a down to earth band, we are honest and love what we do...and the people could feel and see this. We also took always good care of our supporters...by the way, we just started a special HATE SQUAD supporter division website, everybody is welcome: http://www.hsosd.com ...would like to see many new faces there...it’s 100% free to join! We also have 10 special supporter division cities in the US (New York, san Francisco, Atlanta, Miami etc.) and the people can download badges for every city to show their support. KD: Other than music, what do you like to do with your time?

Taking care of my dog and my girl. Sports (Muay Thai, Running & Soccer). Collecting different stuff (music, mainly vinyl records and also special toys!) and taking care of my small 1 man DIY agency Violent Propaganda and all the many many websites and social media profiles I have to take care off regarding, HATE SQUAD, Violent Propaganda and myself.

KD: What is the best thing about being in Hate Squad?

I still living my dream and no end in sight...HATE SQUAD is my baby and will keep me busy in this or another way ‘til I die! It also helps me to handle my anger and frustration, pain and sadness better than anything else could!!! And the guys in the band still belong to the circle of my best friends and we have a good time together and still have the privilege to record albums with our music and don’t have to pay for the studio and CD pressing...what can I ask more for??

KD: If you weren't in Hate Squad and doing music full time, what would you like to do?

I don’t really know...maybe I would end up in jail, because I couldn’t let out my anger on stage or in studio then and would probably kill somebody... LOL J I don’t know, maybe I would fight more active against animal abuse and would risk my life to free some cute furry animals somewhere...or maybe I would get totally lazy and listen to music the whole day and do nothing important.

KD: What is the best prank that has been pulled on you or you pulled on someone else on the road?

Sorry, I can’t really remember...there are many stories from tour available. Hey, but I can remember that on a tour with Kreator and Grip Inc. in the 90s at the last show on the tour, the soundguy gave his best to pitch my voice as high as he could to let me sound like Mickey Mouse the first 2 songs from our set...I was really shocked the first minute...but finally it was really funny...sounding like Speedy Gonzalez on Speed, hahahaha...

KD: What achievement, personally or as a band member, are you most proud of?

Huh...as a band member I have many achivements I’m proud of. Proud that we have played Dynamo 10^th anniversary (was the biggest and BEST Dynamo ever!), Wacken, With Full Force festival...also proud of the tours with Kreator, Grip Inc., the summer metal meetings with Sodom, Exodus, Kreator, In Flames etc., also proud of the Full of hate festival tour with Death, Gorefest etc., also proud of supporting Sepultura on the “Roots” tour in our hometown Hannover. There are many things I’m proud of...especially the 6 albums, the videos, also that we were voted “best Newcomer 1995” by the viewers of VIVA TV (German MTV), leaving Fear Factory and Korn behind us in the ranking list! Proud that many young bands from Europe covering our songs (for example “Not my God” covered by Heaven shall burn, covered by Kaizen, covered by a dozen other bands...) and name her bands after our songtitles, like bands as “Dishonesty”, “I.Q. Zero”, “Bastards” or “Mindloss” did. Personally I have also lot of things I’m proud of in my private life but that would be all in all too much to tell for this interview.

KD: Which is your favourite Hate Squad album and why?

Difficult Question....hhhm, but I would go right now with Katharsis (and also Degüello Wartunes), because this is the first album on which my voice really sounds like I wanted it to sound or that I wanted to sound like a vocalist in general. On the other records it was more difficult. During the recordings for the “Pzyco!” and the “H8 for the masses” albums I was really really sick and also had only 2-3 days to finish the whole albums. On the “Theater of Hate” and “I.Q. Zero” albums I was young and had no idea really what I’m doing there in the studio and was not experienced at all! But finally in my opinion every album has it’s moments and magic songs...if I would be forced to choose one, I would go with Katharsis right now!!

KD: Why should people buy Katharsis?

Because it’s a real aggressive & honest album with good songs, good sound, good cover ...and good vocals, hahahaha :-D Just check it out, if you like bands like Sepultura and Machine Head, or bands like Napalm Death and Bolt Thrower or also bands like Biohazard and Hatebreed...I guess fans of those bands could also like songs from the Katharsis album, I’m sure!! ;-)

KD: If 2012 is indeed the end of the world, how do you plan on spending the year?

We would try to play as many shows as we could ‘til everything is over finally. But we will try to do so anyway. I personally would take much care of my beloved dog Ben (he is also on the album at “Old Times...good Times”) and probably would try to listen to my whole music collection for a last time...but I guess I have too many CDs and Vinyl records in my collection, I definately would need more time to listen to everything...hhhm, maybe I would try to robb a bank and would burn the money in public later, hahahaha...

KD: What are 10 Reason's why Hate Squad is better than Zombies....

In light of the cancelation of Dark Funeral's North American tour earlier this week, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS -- who were confirmed as direct support for the entire trek -- have extended their current headlining tour. On top of the run of eight headlining dates the band already announced, kicking off tonight in Las Vegas, thirteen newly-booked shows across the East Coast and all the way through the Midwest were just confirmed this week.

Additional tour dates are likely to be confirmed so stay tuned for further developments. EMI are proud to announce the release of a new live IRON MAIDEN Blu-Ray, 2DVD Set and Double Soundtrack Album on Monday March 26th (March 27th Canada and USA (via UMe)).

"EN VIVO!" was filmed on 10th April 2011 in front of over 50,000 ecstatic fans at the Estadio Nacional, Santiago during the Round The World In 66 Days leg of The Final Frontier World Tour, and captures a magnificent performance by the band, ardently embraced by the legendary Latino passion and energy of their Chilean fans. With spectacular stage backdrops, dynamic musicianship and a literally jaw-dropping appearance by Eddie, this live show encapsulates to perfection the heart and soul of Iron Maiden 2011.

Bass player and founder member Steve Harris comments "For The Final Frontier Tour it was really important to me that we filmed in South America as we're always so overwhelmed by the fans' reaction when we go to that part of the world and I wanted to reflect that in the filming. After much consideration we chose the Santiago show as we felt it was one of our best performances of the entire Tour and to play at the prestigious Estadio Nacional was a landmark moment for us. For reasons known to our fans, it took a long time before we got to play our first show in Chile, and once we did get to play a show, the response was so phenomenal we just had to keep coming back and it's got better and better each time!

This show also features the gigantic new Eddie. He wasn't due to make his appearance until our European leg of the tour later in 2011, but we managed to transport him across the sea in a special huge container just in time for the latter end of the South American dates so it was great we were able to immortalize him for the DVD as he really has to be seen to be believed!"

The concert was filmed digitally using 22 HD cameras and an octocam (a flying camera which captures aerial crowd scenes), recorded in both stereo and 5.1 audio and mixed by Maiden's longstanding producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley, all of which serves to accentuate the incredible atmosphere of this compelling performance. Extensive use is made of split screens so fans can follow the individual members closer and the set list moves seamlessly between songs from Maiden's most recent studio album, 2010's The Final Frontier through to classic fan favourites via the band's vast and varied catalogue. DVD Disc Two is a Bonus Disc containing an 88-minute documentary, BEHIND THE BEAST. This is also an entirely in-house production by Maiden's own Krew, led by Andy Matthews, and is intended as an interesting and revealing high quality "home movie" for their fans of how to put on an Iron Maiden tour and what goes on behind the scenes at a show. It describes the extraordinary story of one of the most acclaimed and ambitious touring shows in the world. It illustrates the day to day life and complex tasks of the Maiden Killer Krew and the other characters behind the scenes. The expertise and experience, the problem-solving and successes, the sheer scale and immense difficulties of the undertaking comes to life through the day to day coverage of the tour and the background work of the crews in sound, lighting, carpentry, production and set design. As well as interviews with the Iron Maiden crew, it interweaves anecdotes from the band and their fans, and includes footage of the live show in this comprehensive guide to the intricacies of staging massive, live Stadium shows around the World out of the belly of a Boeing 757. The bonus disc also contains an extended version of the promo video "Satellite 15...The Final Frontier", a video about the making of "Satellite 15...The Final Frontier" plus the opening video sequence to The Final Frontier World Tour.

Zebulan Pike Stream Space is the Corpse of Time

Zebulan Pike. The name sounds familiar but can't pin where I've heard it before. The music is no help. It's progressive. It's doomy. It's operatic. It's thoughtful. It meanders. It's rich and polyphonic. Zebulan Pike boasts Tom Berg on drums, Morgan Berkus and Erik Fratzke on guitar, and Erik Bolen on drums. The band has been around since 2002 and hail from Minneapolis. Space is the Corpse of Time was released in June 2011. So why is The Obelisk streaming a six month old release? For people who haven't heard it yet, like me.

Spectrum Threshold is an aural masterpiece. There are so many layers to this song it's unbelievable. It's a full symphony in eleven and a half minutes. The track bobs and weaves thru loads of musical territory. There are variations on the theme, new themes, and colourful tangents. It's the best of 70s indulgent progressive rock updated for the new millennia. It would be reductionist to say they are a jam outfit, as this song is more complex than just four dudes jamming.

Echoic Worlds reminds me of Rwake's lastest release. This track is spacey - like 2001 Space Odyssey spacey. In some spots, the guitar is just downright weird and creepy. Then the song will break off and go in a different direction, a major head fuck. It's like what the what? And you go with it just to see where you'll end up next. Then it lumbers back to life with some heavy groove doom vibe. But don't get to comfortable as Echoic Worlds takes you on a journey through many different musical worlds.

Powers of the Living/Manisfestations of the Dead is a cornucopia of sounds. There is nothing you can pin down or even want to. There is so much going on here that it at times is overwhelming. By this point in the album, the listener should just tune in and drop out. Enjoy the musical landscape as it were.

Space is the Corpse of Time is less than five minutes long. That was shocking. The song is progressive and jazzy. Then that disappears and something wicked this way comes. Not literally, of course, but the interlude brings this to mind. Even in such a short song Zebulon Pike manages to throw conventional song writing and compositions on their head.

Trigon in Force closes the album. The song is a wall of sound. It's distorted bass and evil guitars. It's almost as if a conversation is taking place between musical oddities.

Zebulon Pike's Space is the Corpse of Time is not for the casual listener. It's best used for chilling out and zoning out. Or as groovy background music.

Sometimes the music gods drop things in your lap in the most unexpected ways. Uptapped Radio posted their top 10 requests for Friday. Coming in at #3 was Southern Train Gypsy's "Hallelujah in the Fire". I was intrigued by the name so clicked on it. Southern Train Gypsy's Facebook page took me to their bandcamp page... Where GUNSLINGER is available for a free download. I urge you to download it. It is swinging, swaggering, dirty, southern rock. It's all about southern rock that is good in this world. The vocals are gritty and down low. Yes, there is some growling and screaming, but it just frakking works. The guitar work can only come from Texas! LOL It's got groove. It's got soul. It's got that swagger of rock and roll that is sorely lacking in today's music. The track is from their debut album Hallelujah In The Fire. Genre defying Swedish uber musicians SPAWN OF POSSESSION have announced the final details for their upcoming third full-length album, Incurso. This is the band's first album for Relapse Records. It is already one of the hottest, most anticipated death metal releases of 2012.

It's been confirmed that the release date for North America is on March 13th. Incurso was recorded with engineer Magnus Sedenberg at Pama Studios in Kristianopel, Sweden, and offers up nearly an hour's worth of the band's layered death metal urgency. Utilizing devastating riffs, jaw-dropping time-signatures and improbably complex songwriting, the members of SPAWN OF POSSESSION have vowed to their diehard fans that their already internationally renowned technical wrath will be displayed at its finest and most demoralizing to date on this opus. Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden - Primal Rock Rebellion

SQUEEEEEEEEEEE My love for Adrian is infinite. So when the news dropped January 2 about a new project I was over the moon. Adrian has teamed up with Mikee Goodman to produce something fun and moving and groovy and so totally NOT Iron Maiden! The first track - I See Lights is frakking awesome. Adrian plays guitar and bass on the track. It's hard rock done darn good. It's driving and wicked and dirty.

The vocals are totally in the gutter. The guitar playing is, of course, supurb! It's more metal and heavy than anything H has done for Maiden in years! The drumming is just in your face! I'm liking this a lot. If H had written like this for the last snooze fest of a Maiden album that was The Final Frontier it would've made the album more bearable.

Says Adrian Smith, "It was interesting doing this album with Mikee not least because we have quite different influences. I was really pleased with the way it turned out. It has a really fresh feel to it."

British thrashers EVILE are due to headline a night of metal mayhem on February 11th, 2012, during HMV's third annual Next Big Thing music festival tour.

HMV's Next Big Thing tour takes place at nine venues across the UK and celebrates the very best in new and emerging talent, drawn from all genres of music, with performances from bands and artists who are tipped to make it big in the coming year.

Californian blues-rockers RIVAL SONS have confirmed a new US tour with gothic rockers EVANESCENCE, which is scheduled to kick off on January 13th in Clemson, South Carolina.

RIVAL SONS already joined EVANESCENCE on a North American tour in October this year, before they headed to Europe for a hugely successful headlining tour. The two bands will team up again for the week-long trek in January, which also features ELECTRIC TOUCH.

Orange Goblin Song Premier

NIIIIIIIICE! A wall of distorted guitars smack you upside the head. This song just frakking rocks! Ben Wards vocals are spot on! If "Red Tide Rising" is any indication, A Eulogy For the Damned is gonna be a cracking album!

Say's Ward, "Red Tide Rising' was actually the first song we wrote for the new album and the main riff was written by [guitarist] Joe [Hoare] as far back as 2008. We all knew that this would be the lead song on the album as soon as we wrote it; it felt kind of special and it set the tempo and feel for the whole record. It's one that we all had a lot of input on so it's a real band effort and definitely wasn't rushed. The ending must've been changed half a dozen times or so until we were all satisfied! It's a very typical ORANGE GOBLIN song and I'm confident that it's going to be a live favorite for many years to come. We've actually played it at the last few shows and despite no one knowing it, it got a great response. Lyrically, the song is a tribute to my fascination with the works of horror writer H.P Lovecraft. The theme centers around the rising of Cthulhu from the deep and the ultimate destruction of Earth and mankind. It was fun for me to use my imagination and be able to write about the Elder gods and the end of the world. I think it'll make a great Heavy Metal video! The title was something I made up and we considered calling the album 'Red Tide Rising' for a while. It's pretty self-explanatory with the idea of the oceans turning to blood and the beasts taking over for the dawn of a new dark age! We are all very proud of this track and honored to preview it with Noisecreep/AOL. With our annual Christmas show looming on Saturday, now seems like the perfect time to unleash this beast on the world!"

Metallica 30th Anniversary Show Night #1

Hello, My name is Victoria and I'm a Metallicaholic. I eat, breath, sleep Metallica. It's a quarter century obsession of mine. I've been in the Metallica fan club since 1998. I've had my own chapter since 2001. I got it bad. So when Metallica announced that for their 30th Anniversary they were doing a clubbers only spate of shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco. I was all over it. The tickets were about $8 a nite or $19 for all 4 shows. The ONLY way to get in was to be a clubber or have a clubber take you as their +1. If you've never been to the Fillmore, you should know... it holds about 1200 people. So in 2011, you could see a Metallica show in a smallish venue for under a tenner. Life is indeed, good!

The first night Apocalyptica opened for Metallica. For me, this was the best thing ever, as I totally gobsmackingly LOVE Apocolyptica. They played an amazing set: For Whom the Bell Tolls, Master of Puppets, Fight Fire With Fire, Nothing Else Matters, I Don't Care, Creeping Death, and closed with Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King. Grieg was the original Heavy Metal dude! Even with just seven songs it was enough to induce squeels of delight from me. But the highlight of the night came halfway thru Metallica's set when Eicca Toppinen, Perttu Kivilaakso, Paavo Lotjonen, and Mikko Siren joined James onstage for the most hauntingly beautiful rendition of One I've ever heard. It gave me chills. Apocolyptica also played No Leaf Clover with Metallica. I was blown away!

Metallica's set was pretty choice, too. Little did we know, they intended to give us clubbers a new set every night - no repeats. Monday started off with Call of Ktulu followed by No Remorse (in full), Shortest Straw, Leper Messiah, Day That Never Comes, Carpe Diem Baby (which totally was sleazy and smokey and full of bump and grind), Hate Train (from the Death Magnetic boots, a "new" song), Please Don't Judas Me, Wherever I May Roam, Sad But True (with John Marshall), No Leaf Clover and One with Apocalyptica (swoon), Harvester of Sorrow and Damage, Inc with Jason Newsted, Motorcycle Man with Bif Byford, The Prince - It's Electric - Helpless and Am I Evil with Sean Harris and Brian Tatler. The band ended the night with Seek and Destroy with Jason, John Marshall, Sean Harris, Bif, Brian, Apocalyptica, and the Soul Rebels Brass Band all on stage jamming it out. Freakish and fun it was!

If night one was indication of how the week was going to go, it was going to be long and wonderful. I'll post each night with commentary and photos (Many of you have read the blog updates and twitter feed, so here is the full length version.) What other band do you know of would go this extra mile for it's fans? No one coming to mind? That's because no other band would have the cajones to do it! Metallica rocks, nuff said!

John Carter Trailer

Disney finally debuted the action-packed yet stock edit of an official trailer for director Andrew Stanton’s John Carter, one filled with Martian hordes in the annoyingly familiar Star Wars battle stance using what looked to be left over set pieces and props from Star Wars (the "new" 3 prequal things), sweeping desert vistas (Arizona and Cali I'm guessing) and plenty of shots of a shirtless Taylor Kitsch (not sure why) — and they've managed to pry some licensing from Jimmy Page to use Led Zeppelin's “Kashmir.”

Andrew Stanton won an Academy Award for Wall-E and Finding Nemo. He's done a LOT of animated stuff: Monsters Inc, the Toy Stories, a Bug's Life... now he gets to work with real humans!

Edgar Rice Burroughs is a fantastic writer! You may (or not) remember HE started the whole TARZAN thing. The John Carter premise started in 1911. Yeppers 100 years ago!!! (nothing new under the sun boys and girls). Burroughs wrote 11 books about Mars with John Carter of Mars being the third.

John Carter also stars Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds- totally worth watching as he was aces in Rome and There Will Be Blood, Dominic West from the Wire, James Purefoy also of Rome (the cutie that played Marcus Antony), Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker (I kid you not! From ROME - and Sanctuary and Caprica), Bryan Cranston and Thomas Hayden Church (Wings and Spiderman 3). It opens March 9.

Alright. We all know that booking metal at Fusion Performing Arts Center in Voorhees, NJ is something that is worth fighting for. Well, here's the chance for 4 bands to play there and make it so we can have metal shows on a regular basis.

This show is a benefit show for Fusion to help them raise money to build the wall they need to help them insulate sound from the mall. This is our limitation to booking heavy shows there. Our goal in this is to raise $2000 from the metal scene and show them our support!

To save a lot of people time, i need to reiterate that this is a BENEFIT show for Fusion. Bands will not be paid. This is to help a venue who wants to help all bands. Xombified Management will not be profiting of this show either so relax.

If you want your to play, your band must get 20 people to make a minimum donation of $5. Anyone that donates $30 or more will get 3 passes to any future XM shows of their choice.

Every band that posts their band name on the event page will be placed on our presale ticket page. The first 4 bands to get 20 people to donate at least $5, or the top 4 bands by Saturday December 10th, will perform in the January 7th show. Any band that doesn't make it to play that show, DON'T FRET! You're efforts will not be in vain! First, all profits for the show go to Fusion, so the money isn't being pocketed. They are a non-profit organization. Second, any band that gets ANY donations under your band's name will play our next metal shows. Bands who don't make the January show will be placed on the next shows according to how many people donated under their name.

GODS AND QUEENS: Philadelphia Trio Involved In Serious Van Accident in Czech Republic

Philadelphia-based GODS AND QUEENS were involved in a serious accident while on their current self-booked European tour this weekend in the Czech Republic. Several of the members and their traveling friends received very serious injuries in the crazy scary accident, which destroyed their van, equipment and personal gear.

The band are now struggling to cover their bills and are reaching out for the public's help. I´m going to try and make this as short as I can. After all these years of touring in unsafe vans, and doing stupid things, I guess I was overdue for this... We had a serious van accident in route from our show in Graz, Austria to Dresden, Germany, somewhere along the highway in the Czech.

I was asleep in the back of the van, so I'm unsure of what exactly happened. All I know is I felt the van skidding out and we started to slide and roll over. Not sure exactly how many times the van flipped but it was more than enough. I started screaming for everyone to tell me they were OK. Gertjan check, Ben check, Sara check, and I didn't hear Jeff.

Ben pulled me out through the windshield and I took off running, screaming for help with blood pouring down my face. I honestly though Jeff was dead. A car stopped and a slew of women started screaming at me and I was screaming at them. We were in the middle of nowhere and as I was running two things came to mind, I think Jeff is dead, and I hope I don´t get shot like Artimus Pyle. A woman pulled me into her house and her husband and son ran to the van crash site. I found Gertjan, and he said everyone is OK. The family started talking to me via Google Translation telling me everyone is safe and that an ambulance is on the way.

The ambulance comes takes us to a hospital, we get taken care of... sort of. The police arrive on the scene and inform us that we aren´t leaving until the medical bills are paid in full. They were so kind enough to escort Sara and myself to an ATM machine to pay the entire lump of the bills in full on the spot. Even after we signed some strange papers saying we have 30 day with proof of citizenship, etc. What the fuck ever right? We asked where Gertjan was, and their response was...prison. 300 phone calls and around €3,000 later we are out of the damned Czech and safe in Germany.

Long short, we are all somewhat OK. Jeff broke his collar bone, Ben got his hand jacked up, I am pretty alright, Gertjan is OK, as well as Sara. The van is destroyed. Booking these tours ourselves really made me realize that we are 100% on our own. We had no one to call, no one to "rescue" us. I made 3 phone calls and the entire German punk scene came to our rescue. God damn thank you. Our new friends from Dresden, Germany came to get us at the drop of a hat, no questions asked. Thank you.

So here it is, we are 3 grown adult males in our 30´s who play in a punk band. We are all stage hands at R5 Productions in Philly. That´s what we do to enable us to be here in Europe doing this. Phoenix is hosting the legendary actor, writer, "singer" William Shatner for this year’s Phoenix Comicon. Universally loved for his run as Captain James T. Kirk of the starship Enterprise. Starred in two of the most kick ass Twilight Zone episodes ever: Nightmare at 20,000 feet and Nick of Time. And everybody's favourite TJ Hooker!

“It’s a great honor having William Shatner attend our event, he is an icon of the science fiction genre” commented Convention Director Matt Solberg.

“Shatner is very diverse in his contributions to pop culture and we hope our attendees will be as excited as we are that he is attending our convention,” stated Joe Boudrie, the Director of Programming.

Tis no lie! Shatner has appeared in such iconic TV shows such as: 77 Sunset Strip, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Fugitive, Dr. Kildare, Mission Impossible, Hawaii 5-0, Marcus Welby... are you kidding me??!! The man works!!

Crucial Times - The Age of Denial

Crucial Times asks punters if they are losing their mind? I don't think the band is, but their music is the soundtrack to a society that is losing their mind. The music is chaotic and frenzied and is all over the place. It definitely makes you want to get up and just move. The Age of Denial was released earlier this year, 2011, on Clenched Fist Records. It's a hard driving album that will make any lover of punk metal, thrash metal, death metal happy. The band encompasses all those genre's on the album. It's done quite well. The lyrics are uber political, you'd think the band hailed from Brooklyn circa the 1980s. Crucial Times is emerging head and shoulders above the rest in the metal festival laced Belgium.

Other than the hard driving music that make this band interesting, was the way they got together - all on Facebook. Guitarist Jelle Druyts posted on Facebook he needed a band and lo and behold he got a few takers with Bart Van Den Vonder and Yves Van Gorp on vocals and additional guitar playr Wannes Vanthienen. The rhythm section was harder to come by . LOL So hard it was, it's rumored that Nick De Bruyn is actually another guitar player that was talked into playing bass for the band. We're glad he did.

Vallenfyre - A Fragile King

Things that make me go SQUEEEEEEE!!!!! Gregor Makintosh, guitar god and lover of the WaWa, from the kick ass band Paradise Lost has a new offering. This time, he's traded his axe for a microphone. Teaming up with Adrian Erlandsson (Paradise Lost), Hamish Glencross (My Dying Bride) and Mully and Scoot, Mackintosh gives a much humbled and grateful world... VALLENFYRE!!!! The debut album A Fragile King is released via Century Media records. The title, A Fragile King is a reference to Mackintosh's father battling and losing to cancer. He's said the lyrics are grim. Blimey, they are down right angry!

This is an album you HAVE TO buy! These are dudes you HAVE TO see live! If you can't make Bloodstock in 2012 - you gotta beg, torture, blackmail your local promoter to get them to play the United States.

All Will Suffer is a heavy sludgy doom laden bliss for the ears. It's the perfect doom metal song, almost operatic in it's execution. There is a flow to the music and then abrupt stops and lyrical passages.

Desecration gives the listener spit fire machine gun like guitars courtesy of Hamish and Mully. New to the vocal thing, Gregor's growly vocals are not hard to understand. His voice fits the bleakness of the music. Mojo JoJo wold be proud! Great guitar flourishes that ride above the rhythm guitar and bass. If you were into St. Vitus and Celtic Frost - you'll appreciate parts of this song. Desecration's composition is full of things you know and like, but put together expertly. I love how the song ends. I won't spoil it for you, but it's such a unique way to end a song and it totally fits.

Ravenous Whore vomits with circle pit intensity. It's sludgy, has a hefty low end, and is totally bass drum driven.

Cathedrals of Dread has loads of chord work. Awesome soloing here! The fretwork weaves in and out of the song. The lyrics are fierce and angry and not in that "cool" emo way. These are grown up emotions and frustrations everyone can relate to. The song is about betrayal of God and the anger of being at the end of your rope and realization that religion is not going to help you.

As the World Collapses encompasses that mouthwatering drop A tuning. It's beyond sludgy and has a thick dark sound to it.

Seeds evokes black velvet curtains, Nosferatu, candle chandeliers; it's very Bela Lagosi is dead.

Humanity Wept cries out for a circle pit. It's frenzied and fast paced.

My Black Siberia show cases some tight playing. This song contains no extraneous notes.

The Divine Have Fled is almost polka like. Polka Metal... at warp speed.

The Grim Irony sits just behind the beat. It's slow and slinky but has got a wicked groove. It's very dirge-like.

The limited Digipack and 180 gram vinyl sports a bonus track called Majesty Dethroned. It opens with a predatory growl before careening into psychotic machine gun drumming and guitar playing. Unrelenting pace it has and is not for the faint of heart.
